What’s happened, happened. It’s an expression of faith in the mechanics of the world, and it’s not an excuse to do nothing.
Scrolling through my own Instagram feed, I realised that over the past two years, I have lived so much, not least because I survived the traumatic and harrowing experience life threw at me.
I think it was a global minimum point of my life, so to speak. But that means things have only been going up since then.
I don’t have a 6-figure job. Yet I am doing all the things most of us truly yearn for.
The freedom to live. The freedom to explore anywhere and everywhere whenever I want to.

Back in school, I studied decision maths in my further maths class. In hindsight it was pretty boring and monotonous to manually carry out all sorts of algorithms, from the simplest of bubble sorts to the error-prone simplex algorithm in linear programming.
But if there’s one thing I vividly remember and would like to share with you, it’d be the notion of a ‘heuristic solution’. It refers to the family of algorithms that don’t always find the best solution, but are much quicker than trying every possible solution in a futile attempt to be optimal.
In layman’s terms, it is a good enough approach. Because in one’s pursuit for the perfect vantage point, they lose sight of countless others that are good enough, and usually more than good enough.
They say perfection is the enemy of good. And I concur because even though my life is far from perfect, it is, by all meaningful metrics, more than good enough.
Sometimes I have these periods of wishful thinking, hoping to alter the course of my life by travelling back in time.
We’d like to think now that we know better, we’d have made a better choice then. You know, maybe we would, maybe we wouldn’t.
But then again, what’s happened, happened. It’s an expression of faith in the mechanics of the world, and it’s not an excuse to do nothing.
So I hope we have faith in ourselves, or faith in the Universe, or faith in God if you are religious, that things will work out. And they will, I promise.
Thanks for being here today, I wish you a blessed day.
