We need to remember that if we make it to sundown today, and can enjoy a warm hearty meal with our loved ones, we have made it safe and sound. Period.
Because life is so unpredictable and chaotic. Be it for humans role-playing their imaginary job titles in our desecrated society, or for animals constantly living on the edge in wild Nature.
So long as an animal can feed themselves and their offspring while fighting off predation, they have literally ‘won’ in every sensible definition of the word. For them, winning is only predicated on today, and it’s not tied to knowing what tomorrow will bring.
Perhaps it would serve humans well to remember the same thing. We don’t experience life as something accumulated over decades. We can only live it, completely and irreversibly, one day at a time.
